Fight the Fakes 2025 and Fimvo's message

Every year in December, Fight the Fakes Week brings attention to the dangers of falsified medicines. This year’s theme — “Deadly Deceptions: The Rise of Falsified Weight-Loss Medications and How to Fight Back” — is timely. The surge in demand for weight-loss treatments makes them a prime target for increasingly sophisticated criminal networks.

In Finland, Fimvo stands at the forefront, working tirelessly to protect Finnish people against falsified medicines and uphold public health as part of a wider European effort. Through the European Medicines Verification System (EMVS), the pharmaceutical supply chain has built a robust safety net to secure the legal flow of medicines. And it delivers: since 2019, EMVS has operated with exceptional reliability, linking 30 countries, 125,000 end-users, and 3,000 manufacturers. In Finland alone, almost 10 million packs are validated every month.

Fight the Fakes Week is more than awareness—it’s a reminder of what’s at stake and what we’ve achieved. Thanks to systems like EMVS and the dedication of organisations such as Fimvo, patients across Europe can trust their medicines. Protecting that trust remains our shared mission.
